Sealing tape

Polyethylene foam tape, also sold as acoustic or soundproofing tape. Used in metal roofing and in drywall systems.

What it does on the roof

On standing seam roofs the sheet lies directly on the substructure and every gust, every thermal movement, transfers as noise into the building. The tape separates sheet from structure, which reduces both the drumming in wind and the ticking as the roof warms up.

Material

Closed-cell polyethylene foam, supplied in several widths. Self-supporting, so it does not compress permanently under the sheet.
